This film was made in collaboration with Susan Timmins and it forms part of our long-term collaboration, Cold War Projects, started in 2011 when we started systematically photographing extant remains from Cold War sites in Shetland. Countdown explores the former Royal Air Force operations block and bunker at Saxa Vord in Shetland, Scotland, once part of NATO’s Early Warning Radar System. The title is a play on the much derided “Four Minute Warning”, a public alert system conceived by the British Government during the Cold War. This film was exhibited in Shetland, Iceland and Scotland as part of the Countdown installation which includes 18 photographs. Additionally it has been screened in Film al Fresco organised by Moore college of Art (Philadelphia) and the Aesthetica Film Festival (England).
