Park Matters was a commission to work with architects Shillam + Smith during the consultation process for the regeneration of Normand Park by the North Fulham NDC in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. I met with individuals and organisations active in the local community, including the youth football team, the bowling club' and the local primary school. I talked with people, spent a lot of time in the park, and worked with young people to help them express their ideas, whether in drawing or words. The idea to lay out 4000 flowers in the park to signal the public launch of the consultation process was triggered during my meeting with a local youth worker when he talked about how he wished something unexpected and extraordinary could be done. At the end of the event the flowers were distributed as mementoes to those taking part in the consultation, and some were planted in the park.
